Witness The One-Trick Pony

Sure four of Carolina's five goals were flukes. Sure, the referees calling tonight's game were drunken retards unable to differentiate between a body-check and a trip, or a cross-check and goaltender interference (They seemed to have a particular grievance against Georges Laraque. Just absolutely atrocious calls against Le GG tonight). But the fact of the matter is, the Edmonton Oilers did not deserve to win tonight's game. They failed to take wide-open shots from the slot on the five on five. They failed to take advantage of their speed and the concrete skates of the Carolina defenceman (Is Aaron Ward 85-years old?). But most importantly, they failed to adjust to the fact that every single person in the big wide world knows what they are going to do on the powerplay. I am so exasperated I can barely breathe. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass to the point. Slapshot. Blocked. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Slapshot. Blocked. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Slapshot. Blocked. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Slapshot. Blocked. Powerplay over.

And they do the same thing on the five on five. They cycle the puck, own the zone, and instead of putting it on net from down low, they pass it back to the point. Giant wind-up. Slapshot. Blocked. Or six feet over the net.

Poor Jussi. Totally abandoned tonight.

The whole game stunk of dog ass but the PP especially so.

I watched the game with a friend of mine who has been involved in hockey as a coach for @ 30 years and has forgotten more about it then most of us will likely ever know.

He had two serious issues with the Oil and watched up to the 2-0 goal when they were still in the game.

His verdict - not enough shots at even strength or the PP with the PP being especially stinky. Can't score if you do not shoot.

Sound analysis from people who have played the game. I don't know how the hell the Oilers coaching staff can't pick that up. Isn't that what period breaks are for, to make game adjustments?

Did you hear them talk about Rod the Bod being from Notre Dame, Kirks? It made me want to punch the screen, actually. I now hate Rod Brind'Amour.

Oh my God, I hadn't thought of that! Now, that is a story.

His face-off numbers must have gone down last night, though. He didn't look as dominate, probably because the Oilers sent in tape of him cheating.
