Lost In Translation
Several things to update on the Zidane front. I'd like to post them here, in order to balance out the law & order stance of Avi (I'm surprised he hasn't advocated the death penalty for Zidane yet):
FIFA has announced it will open an investigation on the incident.
Materazzi has admitted he insulted Zidane.
French fans are more forgiving of Zidane than a guy who cheers for the English (Avi).
And I call bullshit on Materazzi. Check this quote out:
I certainly did not call him a terrorist: I'm ignorant, I don't even know exactly what an Islamic terrorist is ... I also certainly didn't say anything about Zidane's mother: for me, a mother is sacrosanct.
So, you are too ignorant to know what an Islamic terrorist is, in today's world, but you can drop the word "sacrosanct" without skipping a beat?
5 Comments:
1/That's a great photo round-up.
2/FIFA investigates all red-card incidents as a matter of routine.
3/What on earth happened that I became the law-and-order type, and you became the walking-John-Howard-Society? Oh yeah: the victim of the attack was an Italian. So it's okay.
4/One thing the Italians have that we don't have in Edmonton: their victory celebration (with 500,000 people) was in the Circus Maximus. Sigh.
5/ You should update the photos. You missed my favourite Italian celebration picture, in which Cannavaro is apparently giving Buffon eight inches of love. And I can hardly believe he's capable of racial slurs afte seeing the clubhouse joy brought on by their regular season performance.
Materazzi is covering his ass. It had to be something HUGE that would make Zidane go completely insane. These guys are under a huge amount of pressure, especially members of the two teams to make the finals. Plus Zidane came out of retirement for the World Cup and has been the big goal scorer on the French team. On top of that, Materazzi has a reputation for being not quite an angel on the pitch. If this was a hockey game in North America, there'd be blood on the ice rather than just Materazzi's ass.
I'm interested to see what Zidane tells the media Materazzi said to him.
RE: Sacrosanct.
Oddly enough, the interview was in Italian. The stuffy word "sacrosanct" comes from the translation.

Hence the title of my post. But I still don't believe that he is unaware of what a terrorist is.
This should really cool things down on the Zidane front:
