Blyleven Gains 66 Votes
Confounding my prediction that the Goose was a lock for the Hall, the BBWAA voted-in only Bruce Sutter, who made it past the post by only 10 votes.
Bert Blyleven, whose case I trumpeted yesterday, shot up the rankings to number 5, with the support of 53% of writers. That means an additional 66 writers were converted to his cause in 2005.
Blyleven has been making steady gains - from 36 to 53% over two years. He's got a long way to go, but it took Sutter 13 years to make it into the Hall. He's still got a chance.
