This Is No Joke

On Saturday April 1st, on the eve of Wrestlemania 22, Bret "Hitman" Hart will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

This is a historic step in the reconciliation (or at least a partial thawing of the ice) between The Hitman and WWE owner Vince McMahon. After the Montreal Screwjob, the two weren't on speaking terms for years, but did agree last year to work on a DVD compilation. It wasn't expected to lead to anything more permanent, but apparently there's at least one more appearance in the works. This should also set off rampant speculation about an appearance on the actual Wrestlemania pay-per-view, which should do wonders for the buyrate.

I'm dead serious, by the way. I'm probably going to order the show just for the possibility of a Hitman cameo, and I'm certainly not the only one. I hope he makes Vince tap out.

Note: This is, coincidentally, the 316th post on this site. How appropriate that it's about wrestling.

Ahhhh the memories: Stampede Wrestling, Ed Whalen, flipping the bird at the tv cameras, Bruce Hart as a substitute teacher.

For years now, a buddy and I have talked about how the only thing that could bring us back to pro wrestling would be a dramatic return by Bret Hart. The easiest thing to do would be to set up Canadian wrestlers, Edge, Benoit, Jericho, into a clique, and then at a pay per view have them announce that there was someone orchestrating behind the scenes all along. Cut the house lights, start the Hitman's music, and blow the roof off the mother.

Man, that would be awesome. It makes me giddy just thinking about it. I also wonder if the Shawn Michaels "mandatory retirement" last night, which is supposed to lead into a Michaels/McMahon match at Wrestlemania, will lead into a Hart appearance at Wrestlemania. One thing is for sure; I will be watching Wrestlemania to find out.
