Why Miika Kiprusoff Stayed Home

I wonder how John Muckler is feeling this morning? Thankfully, no one at the Battle of Ontario has hung themselves yet.

Canada defeated Italy 7-2 this morning, with Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla picking up where they left off in Salt Lake City. The Swedes and Fins also won their games easily. As I write this, the Czech's are up 2-1 on the Germans in the 3rd. The Germans are hanging in, and are about to get a 5 on 3 powerplay.

What do you make of the German uniforms? Am I the only one who thinks they should have gone all out and just worn the retro Vancouver Canucks unis?

Also, can we please retire the gameclock in international competitions that counts up instead of down? Gah, it never ceases to confuse me. This is how Americans must feel when they have to deal with the metric system. Abolish them both I say, it will make everyone's life easier.

And did I hear that the rule is that a player who gets taken down on a breakaway is not allowed to be the shooter on the penalty shot? That is insane. I think it should have to be

I agree. International Hockey has a more messed up rule system than Canadian Football.

This Russia/Slovakia game is wiiiide open. A nice breath of fresh air compared to the German trap-fest that preceded it.

The Slovaks looked awesome today. Big win over the hated Russians. I really like how all the Central Eurpean teams love sticking it to their former opressors. Now if only Tibet could field a soccer team and beat the Chinese.
