He Lined Him Up, He Sized Him Up, He Laid Him Out

Anyone else feeling giddy about watching the Sabres and Flyers game today? I certainly am. My prediction for the series was that it was going to be a Slap Shot-like slugfest. As Abboud showed us yesterday, with the (insert Pierre Maguire's voice here) "MONSTER HIT" by Brian Campbell on R.J. Umberger, we are getting just that. Apparently, Campbell's mom is afraid for her son. She shouldn't be. I'm sure he'll get some attention, but the hit was totally clean. It is unlikely that he will be take a cheapshot, especially since Todd Bertuzzi has already been eliminated from the playoffs.

Game time is 5 p.m. MST, on TSN.

And by the way, if someone could tell me the name of the guy who does the play-by-play for the Sabres, it would be greatly appreciated. He isn't the guy in the clip Abboud linked to, which is unfortunate, because I am sure he would have been flipping out. I really want to hear his audio of that hit.

***Immediate Update*** I found him. Rick Jeanneret. Awesome. They actually have some of his "classic calls" available. Now I just need to find some audio of the Campbell hit.

Man, that LaFontaine clip is just hilarious.

Kevin Weekes is starting in goal for the Rangers tonight.

I really hope that Lundqvist is hurt, otherwise this is exactly the kind of move that will kill a young goalie's confidence.

I think Lundqvist may still not be 100% as evidenced by his 5.5 GAA in his past two starts. Weekes has had good success against the Devils, but if the Blueshirts give Jersey 13 pps again, it won't matter.

I wonder how much of a fuss Philly will put up about the fact that the Sabres played the Umberger anhiliation back on the Jumbtron.

It was in the story I linked to. They weren't happy about it at all.

My God the Sabres look good. They look like the Oilers should look.

4-0. 4 goals on 8 shots. This is gonna get UGLY. Thank God Brashear is out of the lineup.

Jesus. 5-0 here, and the Canadiens have harpooned the Whale. I knew I jinxed them. Damn it all.

I enjoyed seeing the guys in Carolina who were playing table-top hockey while tailgating. Too awesome for words.

And the cheerleaders and the cheesy intro to 'Rock You Like a Hurricane'? Also top-notch.

In conclusion, I will miss the 'Canes if they make an early exit.

Philly finally pulled Robert Esche, who I should give props to for a strong performance in Game 1.

I think Carolina should follow suit and make the switch to Cam Ward, if they haven't already. Having a former Red Deer Rebel in net has to be worth at least a win or two in this series.

Oh, and there's that whole thing with their goalie having lost 12 pounds due to the flu.

And as I type this, the Canes are on the board, thanks to a Red Wings-esque lucky bounce.

Man, did that 'Canes goal wake the crowd (and the team) up or what? It's like night and day.

It's also nice to see Justin Williams back out there after getting run in to the goal post early in the game. That kind of hit can lead to a serious injury, in fact I think it was that exact play that knocked Charlie out of the game in the first Mighty Ducks movie.

Yes, Ward is in, and Philly has just scored.

I missed the tabletop hockey game, but I did like that TSN used Rush at the beginning of the Sabres/Flyers game.

Is Bob Cole taking a holiday for these playoffs, or is it just because the Leafs are out? God, wouldn't it be a breath of fresh air to hear Hughson call the finals?

TSN always uses Rush when introducing the starting goalies.

Bob Cole's calling the Ottawa series.

Wooo HOOO!!! 3-2. Atta boy Roddy! Good ol Notre Dame boy!

The most surprising this so far is that Harry Neale has yet to refer to either of the teams as "The Leafs".

Woo Hoo!!! 3-3 Canes and Habs. And lots of Song 2 from Blur. Wooo HOOO!!

The refs in the Carolina-Montreal game clearly don't believe in the old adage of "let them play".

This game is giving me a heart attack.

I am now preparing to believe. With the Habs winning in double OT it's shades of 1993. What a glorious time that was.

I want to hang myself. At least Colorado is getting rid of the Stars.
