Your Choice Of Glasses

Glass-is-half-empty: The CBC expressed concern for what it termed Barry Bonds' "anemic" batting average yesterday, after the slugger went 0-for-2 in Sunday's game against the Braves. Just 2-for-12 with no homers or RBIs, Bonds was candid with reporters after the game: "I stink right now."

Glass-is-half-full: The Giants are tied for the NL West lead after beginning the season with a 4-2 record. Their Sunday night win over the Braves was kicked-off when Bonds came around to score after a leadoff walk in the second inning. He walked again in the 8th with two out, but Alou failed to bring him home.

With their offence averaging 5.6 runs a game, the club's first week saw veterans Bonds and Vizquel both hit the .500 mark for OBP, and lead the team in runs scored, with 4 and 5 respectively. Bonds has walked 7 times and been hit by a pitch in his first 20 plate appearances.

Although the slugger has yet to homer, he would be among MLB's 30 most productive outfielders this year if he maintains his first-week OPS of .750. Said the slugger to MLB.com "As long as we keep winning, it doesn't matter. I'll take a two-for-the-rest-of-the-season as long as we win the World Series."

You can judge by the length of copy which view I find more credible.
