But Will They Let Him High-Five Players During Timeouts?

The latest suitor to pursue the maligned Pittsburgh Penguins? How about local boy, and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Cuban, along with Dan Marino, are part of the latest group looking to buy the Penguins from Mario Lemieux.

This could be the best news for the NHL all summer, not just because it will provide stability to the franchise, but because Mark Cuban will up the entertainment factor of the team by about a hundred levels. Cuban will probably be involved on some level in the day-to-day operation of the club (though not necessarily with personnel). No word on what Marino's role will be, but I imagine it won't be much more significant that the token player personnel role he held with the Miami Dolphins for a few short months.

Already, the prospect of seeing Cuban jawing with Kerry Fraser, and chest-bumping Sidney Crosby, has me excited for the NHL season. This sale needs to happen, stat.

Awesome. He'll also help advance a more analytical approach to the game. Tyler should be sending him his application immediately.

Cuban is simply the best owner in the history of professional sports leagues. That's he's considering getting into hockey would be huge.

Heh. I can just picture Cuban in the seat behind the home team bench, wearing a customized Pens jersey, berating the referees in concert with the coach (Therien or otherwise). I wonder what his public commentary would be like.
