All I Need Is One More Chance

I've made my feelings about the Canadian Football League very clear, but tonight, I will be attending my first CFL game in over a decade. The Eskimos are playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Andy and I, among others, will be accompanying our dear friend, proud Manitoban, and Sports Matters commenter 'Kirks' to the game.

While the real reason we're going is as part of a celebration of our friend's impending nuptuals, I'm also interested to see if this game can pique my curiousity in the CFL at all. Despite the fact they released Onterrio Smith, I can't think of a better opponent to accomplish this than the Blue Bombers. Witness:

• They have the great Milt "The Eagle" Stegall.

• I actually know one of the quarterbacks on their roster - Brad Banks, who was the runner-up to Carson Palmer for the 2002 Heisman Trophy while playing at the University of Iowa.

• The classic blue uniforms will bring back fond memories of Chris Walby's porn stache, and Bob Cameron, the great Canadian punter who was probably the last player to wear a single-bar facemask.

I will report back on the game in the next couple of days. Unless the two teams punt me to sleep, which is also a possibility.

I'm so looking for a Brian Kelly jersey tonight. Maybe even a Don Getty.

Troy Westwood is still playing? My god, he must be my father's age.

Yea, Westwood has been around forever. But Milt is called "Turtleman" rather than "the eagle". Should be a good game though, the Bombers have been playing well.

I was at the game last night as well (section B - pretty good seats) but left at half time. The first half was the most boring game I have ever seen. Glad I didn't stick around for the second half from the sounds of it. Once again the Esks blew it.
