In honour of the French government's visionary awarding of the Order of Arts & Letters to three video game programmers--including Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Super Mario Bros.-- I would like to award the 1st Annual SportsMatters Order of Breakfast Sandwiches & Smokey Bacon Chips to John Madden. This award is completely arbitrary, totally pointless, and has been decided upon by a jury of me, myself and I--all of whom are currently not wearing any pants. It is given in token of the great contribution that John Madden, and Madden NFL Football, has made to the cultural formation of millions of men around the world. Let us not forget how much the video games have impacted our lives, including their power to unite two men in the bonds of eternal friendship.
