The Phoenix Coyotes have made former Hartford Whalers defenceman Ulf Samuelsson one of their assistant coaches. General Manager Michael Barnett had this to say about Samuelsson's hiring:

''We have a strong group of good young defencemen and felt it would be very beneficial to have them learn the game and be coached by a former NHL blueliner.''

Apparently Barnett is eager to have someone teach his defencemen how to take out a player's knee and then turtle when that player comes after them in retaliation. Makes you wonder why they bothered trading Denis Gauthier. They could have just made him a player-coach.
